Two Rivers Books and Reading is Resistance, wanted to share this incredible project with you.
The Butterfly Effect: Migration is Beautiful is an art project led by youth activists in the San Francisco Bay area. They want our help to make 76,020 paper butterflies - one for every child detained at the border in 2020.
The butterflies symbolize that migration is beautiful. Just like people, each of them is different and beautiful in its own way. They are also a symbol of support and friendship to all the children affected by US immigration policies.
We hope you’ll join the St. Johns Butterfly Club this summer! Our Butterfly Club Kits will include a Bingo Board, origami paper, and information on the project to encourage you to fold butterflies, complete activities, and read books before the end of the summer. When you’re done, bring your completed board to Two Rivers Bookstore for your prize!
Join the Club & Display Your Butterflies
You can get your Butterfly Club Kit at the following locations:
- Little Free Libraries around town (guaranteed to be available at the 7714 N Central St. location)
- The St. Johns Boosters booth at the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival
- Two Rivers Bookstore and Weird Sisters Yarn.
- Or you can download a game board from either Two Rivers Bookstore or Reading is Resistance and use materials you have around the house to make your butterflies!
Once you fold your first string of butterflies, hang them up in your window so that your neighbors know you’re involved! Then, keep folding.
At the end of summer, we’ll be creating a community display of butterflies as part of the (event name here).
